Project Info

The Milan House is a single story house with four buildings connected by glass bridges. The central building contains the public living spaces, including the kitchen, dining room, and a sunken living room. The primary bedroom wing is positioned to the north, and the guest bedroom and office wing is positioned to the south.

A solid stone base anchors the home, with the body of the home clad in shou sugi ban wood siding, and a corrugated concrete roof caps the home with deep and expressive eaves.

Indigenous vegetation defines the landscape, including wildflower meadows and old growth trees. A pool, hot tub and firepit are strategically and quietly set into the landscape.

Process

We worked with a family to incorporate their home into a woodland. The process resulted in a program distributed across four distinct volumes connected by glass bridges, connected to the natural surroundings.
