Project Info

Situated on Main Street with views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains, the Germantown house was sensitively restored, with a modern addition. The historic front facade was maintained, while the rear of the home was opened up to a new deck, a new pool and a revitalized landscape.

The visual and physical connections between interior and outdoors are seamless—and, from some viewpoints, seemingly disappear.  New structural steel made the expansive glazing possible, while a sunken landing is carved away from the deck where it meets the new entry volume to create a distinction between interior and exterior programs.

The historic interior at the front of the home connects seamlessly with a refreshed kitchen, dining room and entry/mudroom at rear, both improving functionality, and creating an active dialog between new and old.

The client approached our team with a very clear and distinctive vision for the home, then trusted us to interpret and realize this vision for them.
