our stories
Jamie Waxter

With a family background in woodworking, Jamie’s original fascination was with furniture design. His dad, a professional furniture builder, provided opportunities for Jamie to explore in his shop, eventually working at a woodworking camp in New Hampshire for multiple summers. Ultimately, Jamie pivoted to architecture after finding comfort in the structure and human scale of the practice.
Jamie believes that architecture is an exercise in translation – a practice in listening to both the client and the context. Those formative years in his dad’s shop instilled a respect for the physical craft of building that remains a throughline in his practice. As a project architect at Lang, Jamie seeks out opportunities to build physical models and visit the project-site to get a tangible feeling of place.
Jamie’s love of craftsmanship and the built environment extends to his interests outside of the studio. He continues to collaborate with his dad on furniture projects, and has recently taken up golf, which he views as a lens to to uniquely engage with the landscape.
