Lief Windham | Windham, New York
The Windham Homes are part of a development comprised of nine single family homes, and 18 duplex units, approximately 1/4 mile from the slopes of Windham Ski Mountain. The Single Family Home is designed with a large upper level great room, open kitchen and dining room to the east. On the west side of the house lies the master bedroom and suite. These primary living spaces are bisected by the main entry space which expands to a double height space with an open stair and full height windows with drammatic mountain views. At the lower level of the house is a den / family room, two bedrooms a bathroom, laundry and storage room. An expansive deck wraps two sides of the great room, and includes a covered outdoor kitchen area with ample space for outdoor dining and living. The materiality of the house is a limited but rich palette of wood siding with a metal details for the upper register of the home and a fair faced concrete wall for the lower levels in contact with the earth set into the mountain side. A copper standing seam roof caps the building, with an elegant single plane.
The windows to the north are expansive, and afford panoramic views of the mountain range in the distance, and upper clerestory windows at the south allow southern light to penetrate deep into the living space. Highly detailed cabinets such as a bespoke built in pantry, kitchen island and credenza provide character to the house. The single family house was designed with the large upper living area and open kitchen on one side of the main entry space, and the master suite on the other. The entry expands to a double height space with an open stair and full window opening the view to the visitor immediately on arrival. Downstairs is a den / TV room, three bedrooms and a laundry all open to the view. The exterior space is primarily confined, due to the steep terrain, to the deck attached to the living room, overlooking the northerly mountain view, with a small sheltered terrace to the north of the main stair and window in the center of the house.
